• Started her legal career as an Assistant Director of Admission and Scholarship at the University of Kansas School of Law in 2013.

• Developed and implemented strategies for recruiting diverse and underrepresented applicants, which included nontraditional, military, and disabled applicants.

• Transitioned to an advocator and trial litigator in criminal law.

• Represented indigent defendants charged with felony crimes as a Deputy Public Defender.

• Supervised staff, participated in hiring, and mentored less experienced public defenders in her role as Deputy Public Defender.

• Specializes in prosecuting sex crimes in Wyandotte County currently.

• Receives and provides specialized training in prosecuting sex crimes that focuses on trauma informed advocacy.

• Has tried 26 jury trials as a prosecutor or defense attorney in criminal law.

Tonda Hill Is Cooperative

Tonda understands the importance of working collectively to accomplish a shared mission.

• Works collaboratively with a victim advocate and an investigator to support victims of crime.

• Has convened bimonthly meetings and training sessions with a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) that consists of law enforcement, forensic interviewers, health care providers, community partners, and other sexual abuse prevention teams.

• Served on the Kansas City Kansas Project Team that developed and implemented resources to combat intimate partner violence. See announcement from the office of the Governor.

Tonda walks with survivors, at his or her pace, to ensure their voices are heard throughout each stage of the case.

• Has served as a dedicated Wyandotte County Sexual Assault Prosecutor.

• Understands the complexities of prosecuting sex crimes.

• Safeguards survivor’s rights through compassionate prosecution that avoids revictimization.

• Files pretrial motions to exclude privileged, irrelevant or immaterial information about the survivor.

• Holds perpetrators accountable.
